Thirsty? Stock up on these warm weather beers!
Instigator IPA, Indie Ale House 6.5% ABV
The Junction’s Indie Ale House took home the coveted title of beer of the year at the Canadian Brewing Awards for Spadina Monkey, a fruit spiked sour ale that’s refreshingly tart. It will hit shelves taproom shelves in mid-July, try to snag a bottle before it sells out. In the meantime, pick up the Instigator IPA, an American-style India Pale Ale. It’s bursting with a bouquet of tropical fruit like grapefruit and pineapple, with an in-your-face bitterness that’s signature of the style.
Jelly King, Bellwoods Brewery, 5.6% ABV
Hipster haven Bellwoods Brewery now has two locations upping their production capabilities, making getting your hands on their brews much easier! Grab Jelly King, a sour ale that’s dry-hopped with citra hops, imparting bright aromas and flavours of passion fruit, grapefruit and peach. This juicy ale is inoculated with a house strain of lactobacillus, a bacteria that gives the beer its clean, sour taste. Bonus: they are open regular hours on holidays.

Sweet Pete’s Ride on Radler, Henderson Brewing, 3.8% ABV
Love them or hate them the beer-juice mix created for thirsty German cyclers is a wonderful summer bevy. Refreshing, low in alcohol, with a fruity kick, breweries have started experimenting with different fruit additions. Sweet Pete’s Ride on Radler is a blonde ale base, with passion fruit and orange juice mixed in, giving it a big tropical fruit nose, with a crisp finish. Part of Henderson’s monthly beer series, The Ides, celebrating Toronto’s history and culture, it’s brewed in collab with local bike shop Sweet Pete’s.

Mountain Lager, Side Launch Brewing Co., 4.7% ABV
Beer nerds love this clean, crisp, refreshing lager crafted by Side Launch’s esteemed and masterful brewer Michael Hancock. We love to stock this sessionable thirst-slaker for backyard bashes. Golden Beach Pale Ale, Sawdust City Brewing, 4.5% ABV
A perfect go-to Pale Ale for the summer months, it pours like liquid golden sunshine. Bursting with aromas of mango, lemon and grassy hops. On the palate there’s lemon and grapefruit flavours, with a zippy, crisp finale. Sawdust City Brewing Co. is located in cottage country mecca, Gravenhurst. With Toronto expat Sam Corbeil as Brew Master and Co-Owner. Clocking in at 4.5% Golden Beach brings on juicy hop flavours without the soaring ABVs.

Session Saison, Exchange Brewery, 5% ABV
Exchange is a Niagara-on-the-Lake brewery that takes a lot of inspiration from their winemaker neighbours, from using wild wine barrels from natural wine maker Pearl Morisette in their Golden Ale to bottling this Session Saison in an Italian Sparkling wine bottle. Aged in Hungarian Foeders (giant Oak casks used in fermentation), giving the brew a light oaky note. It’s dry, with punchy peppery and clove notes thanks to the yeast. It’s the food friendliest of the bunch, making it a dinner party no-brainer.
