Ahh, summer… in all of its busy and sticky glory is back. No matter where you’re headed this summer, there’s an always an occasion that calls for a six-pack. So here are six king cans that make up my ultimate Summer Six Pack. All of these brews are in the LCBO now.

Disclaimer: in the summer my taste buds crave zingy, refreshing wheat beers, namely German Hefeweizens and Belgian-style Wits, made in Ontario. So these styles dominate my list.

Not a wheat beer fan? What’s your ultimate summer six-pack?

HopCity_Lawnchair1. Lawnchair “Classic” Weisse – Hop City Brewing Co. Brampton, ON 5% ABV

This Bavarian-style Hefeweizen pops with banana and clove aromas. My fridge will be stocked with these this summer.

OranjeWeisse_Amster2. Oranje Weisse Summer White – Amsterdam Brewery, Toronto, ON 5% ABV

A handcrafted summer classic now in cans, brewed with orange peel and a touch of coriander and anise, its subtle orange flavours and spice are perfect with fresh-caught lake fish—now all I need is a cottage…

Sawdust_LonepineIPA3. Lone Pine IPA – Sawdust City Brewing Co., Gravenhurst, ON 6.5% ABV

Summit, Columbus, Chinook, Simcoe hops, balanced with four malts. This India Pale Ale is seriously citrusy and dry for when you’re craving a little of a zing this summer. Bonus points: if you’re heading up through Gravenhust to the cottage make the brewery a stop on your way.

Sidelaunch_Wheat4. Side Launch Wheat – Side Launch Brewing Company, Collingwood ON 5.3% ABV

A touch of clove and banana and a little lemon stand out. I’m a big fan of this masterful brew by legendary German-style brewmaster, Michael Hancock. It’s really refreshing with a nice pop of flavour.

MillStreet_100thMeridian5. 100th Meridian Organic Amber Lager – Mill St. Brewery, Toronto, ON 5.0%

This amber lager is now in cans! So it’s perfect for the park (shh!), beach and toss-able from the dock to floating chair. Toasted malts stand out and pay homage to the Canadian Prairies where the barley is sourced, and the Tragically Hip tune that never gets old.

QueenStreet501cider6. Queen Street 501 Semi-Sweet Cider – Brickworks Ciderhouse, Toronto ON 5%

A new cider from Brickworks. Sweeter than the flagship, and I’m usually a dry cider fan, but this newbie hits the mark for me. A little sweet, a little crisp and best over ice. Perfect for a poolside BBQ with friends.
